Nigerian singer Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington released a statement in response to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) over allegations from his Instagram video where he stated having sexual relations with a 15-year-old girl.
The singer denied ever having any form of sexual misconduct, in a formal letter publicly released via his verified Instagram page on Monday in which he called his statement “purely for entertainment” purposes, this came after NAPTIP’s warning on Thursday when they sent an invitation for May 30th. He claimed he hasn’t violated any minor nor having the desire to engage in such, “I have never engaged in or contemplated involving myself in any form of sexual predation, sexual violation or any form of untoward act against the opposite sex,” He had to further on reiterate the intent of the video, “For the sake of clarity, I reiterate that the said Instagram video was made for purely entertainment purposes only and does not reflect any previous or future event involving my person with any female; minor or major,” he stated.
The singer claimed that his statement he made in the viral video was for entertainment purposes and was taken out of context by people who he believed were making unjust accusations, “Sadly, what was meant to be a joke has been blown out of proportion by persons looking for fault where none exists.” Darlington later on stated his transparency with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons officially in order to clarify his alleged innocence as the agency gave warning of further legal actions if he dishonors the official invite. “If the Agency requires further clarifications, I undertake to avail myself at the Agency’s office on June 26th, 2025.” The singer later on issued a public apology to his followers and “May I offer my profound apology for any bad blood or misunderstanding my innocuous actions may have caused the online community, but to the discerning, the video was only for clout and entertainment purposes,”.
